Our State Games

The state games in 2012 will be held in Cleveland, hosted by the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission. The Sports Commission has extensive experience in hosting sporting events and a great network of partner organizations, so the games are sure to be great. The Greater Cleveland Sports Commission is also hosting the 2013 National Senior Games. Our 2012 state games will be the qualifying event in Ohio, so if you want to compete at Nationals in 2013, be sure to sign up for the 2012 state games.

As soon as the schedule for the 2012 state games is available, it will be posted on this web site. Although the dates are subject to change, the Sports Commission is looking at late July- early August dates to hold the state games.

The 2010 state games were held in northeast Ohio, with locations in the greater Akron and Youngstown areas. The results for the 2010 State Games are available for viewing and download from the state games schedule. To access the results, click here: 2010 Ohio Senior Olympics State Games Schedule. The results are included with the event schedule.

Senior Olympics is amateur athletic competition for men and women ages 50 and over. The State Games are held every year, in rotating sites around the state. The Ohio Senior Olympic games are open to all athletes- both residents of Ohio and those athletes from out of state. The state games are hosted by the regional games around the state, in a two year cycle. The state games held in even numbered years (2010, 2012, etc.) act as the qualifying competition for The National Senior Games: The Senior Olympics, which are held in the next odd numbered year (2011, 2013, etc.).

The annual state games offer the majority of the sporting events that comprise The National Senior Games event menu. The state does not have qualifying criteria for athletes wishing to compete in the state games. Athletes are encouraged, but not required, to compete in regional/local competitions in Ohio prior to competing in the state games.

The rules followed by both the state and regional competitions are rules established by The National Senior Games Association for the national competition, and are based, in most cases, on the rules established by the governing body for that sport. A complete copy of the current rules for The National Senior Games are available on the NSGA web site.

Protest Policy for State Competition
The Board of Ohio Senior Olympics approved a "Protest Policy" that will go into effect with the 2009 state games. The policy outlines the proper process for athletes to follow if they want to dispute the results of their competition. To read the protest policy, click here.

Athlete Code of Conduct
Ohio Senior Olympics expects that all athletes will behave in an appropriate and sportsman-like manner while competing in regional and state competitions. To make certain that all athletes understand and comply, we have an Athlete Code of Conduct that provides information about appropriate behavior and the consequences of displaying inappropriate behavior. Read the Athlete Code of Conduct BEFORE you compete so you understand our expectations of you before, during and after competition.
